Job Announcement


Position:         Chief of Police

Hours:            40 Hours/Week; varying hours, frequent after-hours

Salary:            $48,000 – $56,000 Dependent upon experience; Excellent Benefit Package


Position Objective: To preserve the peace and provide police protection for the City of Monticello; to enforce local ordinances and the laws of the State of Utah; to plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate police department operations; to execute all lawful orders of the Mayor and City Council.


Knowledge, Experience, Job Requirements: Certification by Police Officers Standards and Training (POST) of the State of Utah required. Must maintain current Utah Drivers’ License. Prior law-enforcement experience required; minimum of five years experience preferred. Must carry a firearm while on duty and maintain a qualifying shooting score on annual firearms qualification exams. Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English language. Position requires high degree of knowledge and skill relating to police procedures, management of employees, departmental administration and budgeting.


Essential Functions:

1.                                                                                                                                 Provides police protection for the citizens of Monticello.     

2.         Enforces the ordinances of the City and the laws of the State of Utah.

3.         Hires, supervises and evaluates department employees.

4.         Performs administrative functions of department.

5.         Assumes responsibility for annual departmental budget.

6.         Acts as Animal Control Officer

7.         Attends conferences and meetings.

8.         Participates in law enforcement training activities.
